Scott joined Responsible College Advocates as a Certified Pay-for-College and Certified College Debt Specialist because he recognized that families need a holistic plan and road map to the largest expense that most families in America face today...paying for their childrens’ college experience.

He recognizes that helping families get their students into the best schools possible, at the lowest out-of-pocket cost with custom strategies, not products, requires a high degree of transparency that seems to be sorely lacking when parents face the daunting cost of college education. The mission is personal since Scott struggled with college financing for his son. He laments that he had no idea how incorrect financial planning increased the cost of college until it was too late. With that expensive lesson, Scott wants to share with parents how to make college affordable and best plan for their and their childrens’ financial futures.

As a financial profession who has gone through the college financing debacle myself with my own son, I know the need for, and frustrations of, making college affordable. My background affords me the knowledge and experience to help parents with the financial preparations to make college affordable

What was is about RCA's mission that drove you to be an advocate?

I know first-hand the struggle parents endure seeking the information needed to put their children through college. I am attracted to RCA because they offer free guidance, education and service to everyone.

What is the Affordable College Plan?

The Affordable College Plan is a community resource that applies a holistic methodology to align academic goals and the financial strategy to achieve them. It’s an organic solution that looks at your personal economy to ensure that you maximize gifting, or free dollars (endowment monies) from the universities, organize debt to optimally take advantage of interest and savings (if Parent/Student debt is part of your solution) and find the right fit with a university that will compete for your child…The conversations we have with families help shape their academic decision-making by adding a level of transparency and ultimately assisting students to graduate in four years, instead of six (national average).

Each family receives a custom year-over-year Pay-for-College timeline that utilizes individualized strategies to lower a parent’s out-of-pocket costs, minimize loans, and outline when and how to use your money most effectively.
We’ll also do a comparison of the impact that your Current Situation vs. an Optimized Solution – and the impact it will have on your family before, during, and after-college years.
The conversation introduces families to micro-scholarship programs (to earn up to 25% of the 4-years tuition at over 800 universities for doing college prep activities before the end of their Senior year of high school).
Solutions educate parents on how to handle the remaining balance and could also incorporate a college debt pay-off strategy. (The same strategy that is deployed for new college grads to help them pay their college debt in half the time.)

When continued savings tools or financial services programs are elected, a licensed professional may offer tools to complete your strategies on behalf of established A rated companies.
